Epic High School South is a phone-free school. In compliance with Education Law §2803, students are not allowed to use or access personal internet-enabled electronic devices during the school day, from arrival until dismissal, including lunch.This policy supports academic success, emotional well being, and a
focused learning environment for all students.
Devices Covered
- Cell phones and smartphones
- Smartwatches
- Tablets and iPads
- Portable entertainment/music systems
- Laptops not issued by NYCPS
Safe Pouch Process
- Turn off devices upon entry
- Place devices in your Blue Safe Pouch and lock it in front of staff
- Store the pouch in your backpack for the entire day
- Unlock and retrieve devices at dismissal (3:15 PM)
- Bring your pouch every day
Exceptions
- Emergencies or safety concerns
- Approved medical, IEP, or 504 accommodations
- Teacher or administrator permission for learning activities
- Student athletes before leaving for games
- Seniors with early dismissal (verified by staff)

Emergency Communication
- Parents may call Ms. Jones to reach students during the day.
- Students may use the Main Office phone in Room 403.
- Families should set up NYCSA accounts for GAMA emergency alerts.
Discipline
- First offense: Device is held until the end of the day
- Repeated offenses: Parent must pick up device
- Continued refusal to follow the policy may result in further consequences (progressive discipline)
Lost or Damaged Pouches
- Repair fee: $5
- Replacement fee: $15
